FRENCH COINS

The first French Franc gold coins were minted and issued in the late 18th Century under the reign of Napoleon I. The design of each French Franc gold coin has a strong relation to the political rule of France during the mintage of each coin. French Franc gold coins were minted in in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 40, 50 & 100 francs. Mintage of French Franc gold coins lasted until 1914 when the start of World War I caused mintage of all French Franc gold coins to be discontinued.
